Delhi Capitals (DC) will clash with Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-voltage encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Sunday, the 13th of April. Capitals have been the best side in the tournament so far and won all their four encounters. MI, on the other hand, are languishing in the bottom half and have won just one solitary match from five appearances this season. The top-order has not fired and their combined batting average of 20.3 is the worst in the tournament. The bowling has also lacked the zip and venom in the powerplay and been very expensive conceding at 10.4 per over in the first 6 overs.
We look at the rivalry between the two big franchises, the players to watch out for and the match-ups, the numbers which stand out in the different phases of play and who is likely to come out triumphant in the high-octane encounter.
Pitch and conditions
Delhi is the highest-scoring venue since last year. That shouldn’t change at all unless the hosts tactically want it to be lower-scoring and can influence the groundsmen to do so. There was a dust storm in Delhi two days before the match, bringing down the temperatures a little, but don’t expect any rain or much respite from the heat.
Key stats
- MI lead the head-to-head between these two sides 19-16. At home, though, DC are 9-5 against MI.
- In the last match, Trent Boult took a first-over wicket for the 31st time in the IPL, four clear of Bhuvneshwar Kumar at No. 2 on that list. In all T20 cricket, Boult is fifth, behind Shaheen Shah Afridi, David Willey, Bhuvneshwar and Mohammad Amir.

Players To Watch Out For
Hardik Pandya (MI)
Hardik Pandya has been in fine form with the bat and ball for Mumbai Indians but still not been able to take them over the line in close chases in the last couple of matches. He hammered a stunning 42 off just 15 deliveries against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede but the team still fell short of the 222-run target and went down by 12 runs. Hardik’s unbeaten cameo of 28 off just 16 deliveries wasn’t good enough in the 203-run chase against Lucknow Super Giants as they had again fallen short by 12 runs. The MI skipper is also the joint second-highest wicket-taker of the season with 10 wickets at 12 apiece.
Vignesh Puthur (MI)
Chinaman, Vignesh Puthur, has stepped up and delivered when some bigwigs have failed to live up to their billing this season. The left-arm wrist spinner has bagged six wickets in four matches and been restrictive with an economy of 8.5 per over. Puthur’s best performance came against Chennai Super Kings when he returned with 3/32 in his 4 overs.
KL Rahul (DC)
KL Rahul is the leading scorer for Capitals with 185 runs in three innings at a strike rate of close to 170. His highest impact performance came against Royal Challengers Bengaluru when he weathered the initial storm and smashed a magnificent unbeaten 93 off just 53 deliveries to take his franchise to a six-wicket win at the Chinnaswamy. Rahul has been a run-machine in the IPL and scored in excess of 600 in four of five seasons between 2018 and 2022. Remarkably, when Rahul scores 50-plus at a strike rate of 150-plus (as he did in DC vs RCB) his franchise wins 71.4% of the matches (15 of 21)!
Mitchell Starc (DC)
Mitchell Starc has been a revelation for Capitals and is their leading wicket-taker this season with 9 wickets in four matches at an average of 15.4 and strike rate of 9.8. Starc returned with a fifer against Sunrisers Hyderabad and has been very effective in the death overs – he has picked 4 wickets at an economy of 7.87 in the final four overs this season.
